GALLAUDET - THE FIRST GENERATION
1 PIERRE ELISEE GALLAUDET.
Son of Josue and Margaret (Prioleau) Gallaudet. Born abt. 1690, Mauze, D’Aunis, France. Died after 1738, probably Staten Island, Richmond, New York. Married abt. 1719, probably New Rochelle, Westchester, New York, 1) JAN / JEANNE ____________. Born abt. 1696. Died abt. 1734, probably Staten Island, Richland, New York. Pierre Elisee Gallaudet first appears in a record as a witness to the marriage of his sister, Marie, to Renee Boudet of Bellard, at the Parish Church of St. Gelais in France in 1711. He was the immigrant ancestor of the family and first is mentioned in the records of the New World in New Rochelle, Westchester, New York in 1722 in a deed between Daniel Bonnet and Cornelius Tienhoven, where he is referred to as “Docteur Gallaudet.” In White Plains, New York, dated February 11, 1726, the following is recorded: “Peter Elisee Gallaudet of New Rochelle, Chirurgien [surgeon], bought land in New Rochelle from Samuel Bonnet of the same place for 200 pounds.” His departure from New Rochelle is assumed when he sold his property: “Mar. 1, 1732 Pierre Elisee Gallaudet and his wife Jan sold the same or part of the same land to Zachariah Angevins for 130 pounds.” Pierre’s naturalization is recorded as follows: “At a Council held at Fort George in New York June 17- 1726--- an act for naturalizing… [among others] Pierre Elisee Gallaudet.” His name appears on a record for the next and final time in Port Richmond, Staten Island at the christening of his daughter Esther (more commonly known later as “Hester”) on 5 Nov 1738. Born abt. 1714, New Rochelle, Westchester, New York. Magdaleine’s father died when she was the only living child, in 1717. Her mother was then expecting the couple’s second child. Birth order of children not certain. Had children:
